Necessary evil...

Sunday, April 27, 2008

So it happened again, another long period without skating. After a lot of thinking and talking to different experts, I found that a little digging was necessary.

The last couple of months I’ve had some pain in my right hip and as it turned out I had a little excess bone that hindered my movement/flexibility. It’s nothing dangerous but if I wanted to continue skating at a high level - which I do! - I had to remove it. Standing by the knife was Dr Leif Swärd, one of the best orthopedic doctors in Sweden. When you do something like this it’s nice to have a doctor you trust...

This was the first time for me, going to surgery, but it went well and I was home again after less than five hours. During that time I’d been put to sleep and everything, pretty cool I must say.

Tomorrow I’m starting my physiotherapy. I don’t know what we will do yet, I can’t walk and have to use crutches, but I’m sure he will think of something. If everything goes according to plan I will be back and ready to skate in the middle of July. Looking at it from the bright side I will be home with my family and friends the entire summer for the first time in I don’t know how long :)

I believe this was the right thing to do, and I’m going to stay positive throughout the process! Until next time: Enjoy the summer!
