Finlandia and NHK Trophy
Monday, November 9, 2009
I’m on my way back from Japan and thought I’d write a few words about the last two competitions.
Coming to Finlandia was a last minute decision after having some problems with my groin for several weeks and just when I thought it was ok, it started to hurt again... But some last minute treatment made me feel confident in going and I’m happy I went because during the practices in Finland I felt really good, no pain, so it was luckily only a minor issue. The competition went pretty well, it was the first one of the season for me and I could enjoy skating and competing again. I know I could do better in the coming events, but it was a start.
After coming back from Finland the training went well and I really looked forward to go to Japan to compete. I’ve been to Nagano and Japan three times before, and skating is really popular there. Also, I have some especially good memories from Worlds in Tokyo 2007. I was hoping to repeat the success.
That did not happen. I got the worst placement in my grand prix history, finishing last...
The short program started out great, the first two elements were the best of the season, but unfortunately I fell on the third one. After that I also missed the last combination spin, losing many points. On top of that I got another spin level 1 (don’t really know why). So I ended up with 64 points, 4 less than in Finland.
Going into free I was hoping to recover, and skate amazing. It started out well again with a triple flip triple toe combination and a triple axel double toe combination. Then I fell on the second triple axel and doubled the lutz. But the worst part was the skating. I didn’t skate the program like I can, which is a real shame cause it’s a great program! I was 11th in the free (as well as in short) but ended up dead last...
Now it’s time to get back up and show the world what I can do!
In serious thoughts during warm up before the short program in Vantaa, Finland.
