Winter Universiade
Wednesday, March 4, 2009
I was looking forward to going to China for the second time this season. I was skating really good after coming back from Europeans and I thought I had a chance at the medals in the winter universiade. I was not looking forward to the long trip though... But it was ok.
Arriving in Harbin was a cold experience. I knew it was going to be cold, but coming from the plane I wasn’t fully prepared for -10 degrees... Fortunately we didn’t have to stay outside for very long and the hotel was nice and warm.
We arrived in time to go to the opening ceremony, which were held in the figure skating venue. They put on a great show but maybe it was a little long, plus we missed the big fireworks going on outside...
The competition then. I messed up in the short program, doing a double toe and falling on the flip, axel was ok though. Don’t know what happened but I sure wasn’t happy... Before the long I felt better, more relaxed, and it started well. It actually went good all the way if I hadn’t left my brain at home... I did too many combinations, scoring 0 on a 3S-3T in the second half. At least I’m not doing that on Worlds...
This was my first (and last) Winter Universiade and it was fun. It felt like the Olympics with all the other athletes, a Swedish team and an athletes village, though it’s not as big and no media...
The big Swedish team in Harbin before the opening ceremony.
